Parents & Families

The relationship between faculty, students and families is a cornerstone of the Berkshire experience. The school takes seriously its principle of in loco parentis (“in the place of a parent”) and embodies it in many ways. Communication with families is frequent, through letters, e-mails and phone calls, and faculty and staff ensure there is always a way they can be reached.

DIRECTOR OF PARENT ENGAGEMENT

Shannon Tyree Brown serves as Berkshire's Director of Parent Engagement. In her role, ensuring that families feel informed, supported, and involved throughout their students’ journey. Shannon’s enthusiasm and thoughtful approach to engagement make her an invaluable resource and partner for all Berkshire families.

More About Shannon

After a successful business career, Shannon shifted gears professionally and transitioned to the independent school world. The parent of two girls (Addie and Cassidy), she served as the Parents Association President at Indian Mountain School in Lakeville, CT, for three years prior to Berkshire. In that time, inherently more challenging during the pandemic, Shannon was known by all as a creative and effective community builder and partner. She cares deeply about schools, children, and education and is often described by previous colleagues and fellow parents as a “born connecter.”

Mission

The mission of the Berkshire Parents Association is to support and enhance the Berkshire experience and community for every student, parent, and faculty member. We accomplish this through volunteer efforts and stewardship of faculty appreciation, event participation, and parent giving. Our goal is for Berkshire parents to feel connected to one another and the School.

PARENT GIVING

Berkshire’s Annual Fund is one of the School’s most important yearly fundraising initiatives. Every gift to the Annual Fund immediately impacts life at Berkshire. By making a gift—of any amount—you are investing in our mission and enhancing the overall educational experience for our community. Annual Fund dollars directly support our students in so many ways, from lab equipment and 3D printers to theater costumes, musical instruments, athletic gear, and field trips.
