Hockey - Boys Junior Varsity
|Date:||January 29, 2014|
|Score:||Berkshire 2 - Taft 3|
In hopes of avenging an earlier season loss, the Bears headed down to Watertown on Wednesday to take on the boys from Taft. Unfortunately, Berkshire is still struggling to set the tone in the early shifts of the game. While there was no blood in the 1st stanza, the Bears missed a significant opportunity to catch the Rhinos flat footed and to end the game before it even started.
Berkshire did find some fire in the 2nd period however. Nick Palumbo, Dan Ives, and Larry Matt were rewarded for their hustle as Nick opened up the scoring for the Bears with a great 2nd effort and knocking in his own rebound. With momentum squarely in Berkshire’s favor as the period progressed, the puck started to bounce the way of the Bear. Sensing this, Johny Grogan, took a severely off angle shot from the side of the net, bounced it off of the goalie’s back, and netted the Bears’ second and last tally of the day.
Unfortunately, Berkshire wasn’t able to completely extinguish the Rhinos’ last hopes and prayers. Taft took advantage of a decline in Berkshire’s intensity and fought back to tie the game early in the 3rd period. With 6 minutes left and tied at 2 goals apiece, the Rhinos took the final lead of the day and never looked back.
The Bears will head down the road next Wednesday to take on the Crimson Knights of Salisbury.
