Hockey - Boys Junior Varsity vs. Avon Old Farms School

Event Type: Regular

Date: January 23, 2013

Score:0 - 4

Event Recap:
The Bears travelled to Avon for a second matchup against their Varsity B club this season, having dropped the earlier contest 0-3. The pace of play and physical style of the two teams made for a very evenly matched game, with both squads putting together several scoring opportunities in each period. The Winged Beavers took an early 1-0 lead in the first period, but the Bears remained competitive throughout the opening frame thanks to many individual efforts.

Despite the individual performances, the Bears could not manage to play together as a unit most of the time, leading to several miscues and costly mistakes; in a span of two minutes Avon led 3-0 to start the second period. After calling a time out, players refocused their efforts and quickly mounted an offensive charge, and to their credit managed to keep the offensive push alive most of the remaining portions of the game. However, a few penalties on the Bears slowed their progress, derailing their momentum in earlier shifts, and led to Avon's last goal of the game.

Brendan Moloy '14 played well in net, preventing many potential second-chance opportunities with good puck control. Connor Shalleck '16 was excellent in both ends,  generating offense with a potent fast and physical style.

The Bears hope to rebound at home this Friday versus Cathedral HS.
