Hockey - Boys Junior Varsity
|Date:||January 16, 2013|
|Score:||1 - 4|
The Bears headed to The Gunnery looking to avenge a frustrating 3-1 home loss just a week prior. Hoping to build on an outpouring of offense in their previous game, the Bears started off well, maintaining possession of the puck in the opposition's offensive zone for multiple shifts, and neutralizing any significant counter attack with a patient, physical defensive effort. Despite out-shooting the Highlanders - in a manner just like in the previous contest - the Bears found themselves trailing at the end of the first period due to Gunnery's ability to capitalize on their few opportunities.
Starting the second period, Berkshire showed poise and tenacity, increasing the pressure on their forecheck and sending even more pucks towards the net. Though they would have a second goal scored against them in the second frame, the Bears managed to score on a 2-man advantage with one second remaining in the period on a shot from Barclay Gammill '16 that deflected off Gray Riatti '14 - a testament to the hard work and persistence they had maintained throughout the game.
Though the squad would continue to mount an impressive attack, a few costly turnovers, a bad change, and a handful of missed opportunities would cost the Bears the game, ultimately giving up two more goals and losing by a score of 4-1.
The Bears look to rediscover their offensive prowess as they host Avon this weekend.
