Basketball - Girls Junior Varsity vs. Kent School

Event Type: Regular

Date: January 19, 2013

Score:25 - 24

Event Recap:

After Berkshire’s winning streak came to end at five games last Saturday, the girls were looking to start up another run.  They knew that this would be tough because they were playing against one of the two teams that had beaten them this year.  The Bears lost in the first meeting by 11 but it was the first game of the season and the team has come together nicely since then.  When the game got going, it was clear that it was going to a tightly contested game.  Berkshire was able to jump out to an early lead and took a six-point lead into halftime.  The second half saw some great action and it came down to Kent having the ball with 15 seconds left and Berkshire leading by just one point.  It was then that Taylor Willi picked off a Kent pass and sealed the game for Berkshire.  Willi had a great defense game coming up with several key steals and adding 8 points.  Co-captains Hong Minh Ngo (8 points) and Liza Bernstein (6 points) were key in helping the Bears secure the win.  Krisse Niemi (2 points), Kim Henry (1 point) and Nicole Martinez all worked very hard on both sides of the court and had nice games.  With the win Berkshire moves to 6-2 on the season.  Berkshire will welcome Suffield to town on Wednesday in what should be another tough game.
