Event Recap:For the second time in as many games (after a snow out on Saturday), the Bears squared off against the Rhinos from Taft. So the two teams were familiar with one another and the game, in some ways, mirrored our earlier meeting in Watertown.
The game started well for Berkshire, as we scored on our opening possession with a running layup. From there, however, points were extremely hard to come by -- for both teams. We played aggressively on defense, even if we fouled too often and thus left them with some easy opportunities at the charity stripe. We could only muster 8 points by the half. That was the bad news; the good news was that we had held Taft to only 17. The game was certainly not out of reach.
We stressed the importance of opening strong in order to get ourselves back into the game. And that's precisely what we did, scoring the first six points (mostly in transition) of half. That cut the lead to 3. Over the course of the next 10 minutes, however, though we continued to scratch, we could never really get any closer. A bank three for them seemed to be the backbreaker.
Many good things to build on: consistent effort and a many, many teammates making contributions. We will need to improve our shooting and, especially, our ball security. We committed way, way too many live-ball turnovers, and that cost us dearly. Up next is Suffield on the road on Saturday.
