Basketball - Boys Thirds vs. Salisbury School

Event Type: Regular

Date: December 8, 2012

Score:38 - 33

Event Recap:
The Thirds Basketball team began their season on Saturday by traveling the short distance down the road to Salisbury. This would be a tough early season test for the Bears as they dressed only ten players. Two of the Bears were hobbled by sore ankles.
That did not seem to matter after the opening tip as the Bears raced out to an 8-0 lead, forcing the Salisbury coach to burn an early timeout.  After that, the game took on a battle of wills as the Bears would race ahead only to have Salisbury come back. Justin Donawa led the way for the Bears with 13 points and some lock down defense on Salisbury's best player. Ras Steinreuck pushed through the pain of a severely twisted ankle to contribute 7 points, numerous rebounds, and key on-court leadership.
The game entered the second half with the Bears leading by three, but Salisbury came out firing and took a slim lead with under ten minutes to go. The Bears fought back, and baskets and free throws by Patrick Frey near the end helped the Bears ice the game.
This was truly a team win as all ten players contributed to the effort. The Bears are off for the Winter Break, but will look to continue their winning ways in 2013.
