Today the Bears hosted Millbrook, a team that beat the Bears 7-0 just last week. Mr. Turner, the Boys' Varsity Squash Coach, sent down Dongchan Ryu '17 and Tanner Boyle '17 who play at the bottom of the varsity's 12 man roster. With the added boost and desire to avenge the previous lost, the Bears looked to get an improved result. Ian Bell '16, playing at #9, started off winning two sets in a close manner 11-9. After that, he was not able to hold the ground and lost in the 3rd set 10-12 but made a terrific comeback and won the 4th set 11-8. Bryce Laigle '15, at the #8 slot, put up a great fight yet was unable to rival his opponent; he went down in three straight sets: 6-11, 10-12, 3-11. Dan Beyer '16, the #7, and Noah Arin '15, the #6, faced a tough opponent and were stuck in the back of the court most of the match; both ended up losing 0-3. In the #5 slot, Hunter Borwick '16 put up a great fight as he won 3-0 in one of his more commanding performances of the year. Captain Bao Nguyen '14, playing in the #4 position, won his first two sets, lost his third, and then grabbed the win with an impressive 11-8 win in the 4th set. At #3, Yanno Fernandez '15 faced a high pressure situation with the match locked at 3-3. However, Yanno handled it well and pulled out a gutsy 3-1 victory. Tanner Boyle '17 played in the #2 slot and used his drop shot effectively and posted a smooth 3-0 win. Dongchan '17 faced the strongest player of Millbrook, and ended up losing in three tightly contested sets.
It was a solid 4-3 win for the improved Bears, but they have little time to enjoy this victory as the team must now turn its attention to Salisbury who comes to town tomorrow for what looks to be an exciting match.
