Hockey - Girls Junior Varsity vs. Westminster School

Event Type: Regular

Date: January 26, 2013

Score:1 - 7

Event Recap:
Facing their toughest opponent of the season, the Bears got pumped up on the long bus ride to Westminster and came out of the gates ready to play, despite perhaps inevitable defeat. The day's objectives were to keep the powerhouse Westy squad to single digits on the score board (a daunting task against a team with recent wins of 11-0 and 12-0), and to put a puck past the brick house Westy goalie (not scored on in the previous three games). And the Bears did just that. After falling behind by 4 in the first several minutes of play, the Bears shook off their nerves and began to play tough defense. Down 5-0 going into the second, Berkshire was down but still determined as they successfully killed off two penalties without letting a goal by. In the third, the Bears battled back for that sought-after tally, and Maureen McCarthy '14 found herself in the perfect position to score with only 5 minutes left to play, and netted Berkshire's only point of the day.

Berkshire goalie Haleigh Sullivan '15 had another strong day, stopping 23 shots in her 45 minutes.
