Hockey - Boys Thirds vs. Rumsey Hall

Event Type: Regular

Date: January 23, 2013

Score:2 - 6

Event Recap:

Thirds hockey traveled over the river and through the woods to Rumsey Hall on Wednesday to face off against the Blue Dogs' varsity squad.  During the first period, the boys watched with fascination and admiration in their eyes as Rumsey ran out to a 4-0 lead.  Typical of their teams of the past few years, the youngsters, though a bit undersized, skated and handled the puck well, and played a disciplined brand of hockey that the Bears would love to emulate.  Once they snapped out of their spectator mode, the boys were able to put a couple of pucks past the Rumsey netminder, with "Dandy" Danny Ives, '15, going high glove side after breaking in alone, and Eric "Smithers" Smith, '14, scoring on a nifty wraparound.  The third period was a back and forth affair, with each team getting their chances, but with some untimely penalties squashing the Bears' hopes for a comeback.  As the bus rumbled back through the woods of Litchfield County, the boys set their sights on Saturday, when they travel to Avon for a rematch with the ferocious Winged Beavers.
