Basketball - Girls Varsity
|Date:||January 8, 2014|
|Score:||Berkshire 72 - Millbrook 8|
The Girls Varsity Basketball team kicked off the new year with a strong victory over the Millbrook Mustangs on Wednesday afternoon. The Bears were in dire need of a win after a tough showing at the Pomfret and BB&N holiday tournaments, and we hope that this 72-8 win has gotten them back on the right track!
Taking over the role of point guard, Kristalyn Baisden '15 turned in a dominant performance against the Mustangs. She scored a season-high 19 points to lead all scorers, dished out five assists, and grabbed four steals, but most importantly, she kept the tempo high the entire game and led many of her team's fast break opportunities. Samone DeFreese '16 and Hannah Cooke '14 were the next two leading scorers for the Bears with 12 and 10 points, respectively. DeFreese also had five assists, while Cooke recorded four steals. Emmi Graebner '14 had a dominant day in the paint on defense, with season-highs in rebounds (eight) and blocks (five). Coming off the bench, Sarah Kinney '15 (nine points) and Francesca Ghi '14 (five points) brought intensity on both ends of the floor. Both girls played smart defense, anticipating passes and putting pressure on the Millbrook guards. Madison Biasin '17 recorded seven points in barely that many minutes of play, hitting a three-pointer and earning two more fast break baskets off her own steals. Nicky Friedman '15 took advantage of every second she had on floor, particularly with her strong offensive rebound and put-back toward the end of the second half.
Overall, every girl on the team contributed to the Bears' high energy win over Millbrook, and the team is proud to notch another game in the win column. The girls will travel to Loomis Chaffee on Friday for a 6pm game, followed by a Saturday afternoon home game against rival Taft.
