Basketball - Girls Varsity
vs. Canterbury School
|Date:||January 16, 2013|
|Score:||52 - 20|
Event Recap:The Lady Bears traveled to New Milford, CT on Wednesday afternoon and came away with an easy 52-20 victory over the Canterbury Saints. Despite the lopsided score, the Bears focused on improving upon the fundamentals and executing their game plan.
The Bears came out of the starting gates strong, perhaps due to their animated bus ride down Rt. 7. The starting five immediately overwhelmed the Saints with their full court press, and after a few quick steals converted to layups, the score was well in favor of Berkshire. Samone DeFreese ’15 led the way in scoring with a quiet 23 points, followed by Kristalyn Baisden ’15 with 10. Hannah Cooke ’14 and Francesca Ghi ’14 were the next leading scorers with seven and six, respectively. Cooke and Baisden both had much better passing days than usual, with 11 assists between the two of them, and Cooke also had a team-leading eight rebounds. Cam Biasin ’14 did a great job hustling after rebounds and running the fast break, and Emmi Graebner ’14 and Ghi provided high energy sparks off the bench. All 14 girls got solid playing time against the Saints, and overall, the Bears did a better job of finding open players and running the fast break.
The Bears finally have two practice days before their next game, which is a home matchup against Kent on Saturday at 2:30pm. With their sights set high for the rest of the season, the girls are focused on improving every day and working hard together.
