Basketball - Girls Varsity vs. Loomis

Event Type: Regular

Date: January 11, 2013

Score:56 - 65

Event Recap:

The Lady Bears lost a hard fought battle to the Loomis Chaffee Pelicans on Friday night.  Though Berkshire challenged Loomis’ lead with a few second half runs, the Bears were unable to execute on the offensive end and found themselves in a tough position as the clock ran down.  The final score was 56-65.

Samone DeFreese ’15 and Kristalyn Baisden ’15 led the offensive attack for the Bears, scoring 25 and 20 points, respectively.  Cam Biasin ’14 (eight points) and Hannah Cooke ’14 (three points) were the only other players to score, and the team’s field goal percentage was certainly not something to boast about.  DeFreese was the only player in double figures for rebounding, which was something the Bears struggled with all night.  Despite getting outrebounded, the Bears were able to cause some trouble for Loomis with their press.  Baisden stole the ball seven times, and four other players had at least one steal.  Co-captain Olivia Smith '14 worked hard in the paint, battling on defense to try and stop the Pelicans' post players.

Overall, the girls played hard but lacked the confidence and keen decision making that was needed to be Loomis.  The Bears will look to bounce back and capitalize on their athleticism in another Class A matchup tonight in Watertown, CT against Taft.
