Basketball - Girls Varsity vs. Kent School

Event Type: Regular

Date: December 1, 2012

Score:53 - 46

Event Recap:

The Berkshire Bears kicked off their 2012-2013 campaign with a 53-46 win at Kent on Saturday night.  Playing in front of a tough away crowd after only a week of practice, the Bears fought hard till the buzzer to hold off the Lions.

The Bears were plagued by foul trouble in both halves and forced Coach Smith to turn to his bench for support.  The ten players who contributed in the game did not disappoint.  Samone DeFreese ’15 led all scorers with 21 points, followed by Camryn Biasin ’14 with 11 and Kristalyn Baisden ’15 with 10.  Point guard Hannah Cooke ’14 also chipped in 9 points and dished out 3 assists.  The girls struggled on the boards the entire night, giving up far too many second and third chances to the Kent players.  Despite that, Biasin and Emmi Graebner ’14 each were able to grab 8 boards, while DeFreese had 7.  The team had an impressive 19 steals – though turned the ball over even more times – including 6 from Biasin and 4 from Baisden.

The Bears will look to capitalize on the positive momentum gained from their first victory when they host Hotchkiss today at 4:45PM.  Come out and support!
