|Score:||Berkshire 4 - Deerfield 0|
Berkshire hit the ice this afternoon to play for the first time since returning from break. The Bears came out with a lot of energy and put together a great game against Deerfield. Lauren Henman'14 and Renee Dreher '15 led the way offensively with two points each.
Berkshire won the opening face off and put pressure on the "Big Green" right away. Henman scored her first of two just three shifts in at the 10:45 mark. Maggie Curran '17 had the assist on the goal. While no other goals were scored, Berkshire's defensive play by Mackenzie Lancaster '15, Ronnie Lortie '14, Maddie Beitler '17, Olivia Good '15, Curran and Kate Klimaszewski '16 along with goalie Jamie Ernst '15 were solid and shut out the pressure from Deerfield all game.
Much of the offensive punch in the second period came from Deerfield. They out shot the Bears 7-4 in the period, but Ernst was strong in her crease and kept them off the board. Neither team would score and Berkshire would return to the locker room up by one.
The third period of the game belonged to Berkshire. Henman netted her second of the game at the 12:22 mark with an assist from Lortie to put the Bears up by two. Klimaszewski won a puck at her defensive blue line less than two minutes later and with quick burst of speed found herself finishing on a breakaway. Dreher had the assist on the play. Henman would hit the post on the next shift, and then Lancaster finished a minute later after beating a few girls on the wing and firing a hard low shot. Dreher again had the assist on the play.
Berkshire played a great game from start to finish. Alli Sugar '16 played very well all game and had some excellent tips in front that just missed. Erin Dillon '17 and Kylie Wilkes '16 found themselves with some scoring opportunities off of strong fore-checking as did Molly O'Neil '17.
Up next for Berkshire is an away game at Pomfret on Monday.
