Event Recap:The Bears came out ready for a win on Monday evening in their rescheduled game at Deerfield. Play was evenly matched from the beginning, Berkshire hoping to get rid of their bus legs. That they did when the forecheck started to click, however an unfortunate penalty came at the end of the period. But the Bears kill was superb as the puck popped out to Kate Klimaszewski '16 on the right side of the ice, Kylie Wilkes '16 on the left in a two on one shorthanded opportunity. Wilkes carried the puck into the zone and sniped a great wrist shot in the upper righthand corner past the Deerfield goalie's blocker! The Bears were up by one heading into the second.
The strong end to the first period led to a great start of the second. In her second shift of the period, Lauren Henman '14 carried the puck wide down the left side of the ice and cut in to take a hard snap shot that went high blocker side. Goal! Now playing with a two goal lead, the four Berkshire defensemen, Bella Sinsigalli '13, Kira von Steinbergs '13, Ronnie Lortie '14, and Olivia Good '13, worked hard to keep the Big Green forwards off of the puck and made good offensive decisions, keeping the game simple. The score was 2-0 heading into the third period.
Despite the lead with 15 minutes left in regulation, the Bears did not let up. Some great offensive play came from Renee Dreher '15, who forechecked superbly, and Murphy Newman '13, who had several close chances. It was Henman who got her second of the night and the third for the Bears with 9 minutes remaining. The goal happened due to a great chip off the boards by Dreher, picked up by Henman who found herself alone with the goalie. A nice deke move created an opening and Henman capitalized! Deerfield was able to score a power play goal in the final two minutes, but came short in the end. Jeanne Morin '13 played stellar in between the pipes for Berkshire, coming up with some huge saves. A great game for the Bears, taking the 3-1 win! They face Choate on Wednesday.
