Gappa is currently in her 12th season as a coach with the Berkshire girls’ varsity hockey program. During her time coaching at Berkshire, the Bears have been to the playoffs nine times and captured the Division I New England Championship twice (2003, 2006). After assisting with the team for eight years, Gappa took over as the head coach in the 2008 – 2009 season. During her three years as the head of the program, her teams have compiled a record of 52 – 22 – 3.
Coach Gappa grew up playing hockey in Nova Scotia in the boys' program. She also played for the Pictou County girls' club program and then for team Nova Scotia in the 1995 Canada Games. At the conclusion of her college hockey career, she played for Nova Scotia's senior women's team for a couple of years in the Canadian Nationals tournament.
Coach Gappa went to Middlebury College where she played Ice Hockey for four years and Softball in her sophomore year. As a member of the Middlebury Women's team she was named to the All-ECAC team for all four years and the All-American team in her final two years. As a senior, Coach Gappa was awarded the ECAC Player of the Year award as well as the National Player of the year award. Over her four years at Middlebury, the Women's team won four ECAC titles and captured the D3 National tournament her senior year, the first year of its existence.
