Hockey - Girls Varsity
Head Coach: Becky Zavisza '05 email@example.comOriginally from Suffield, Conn., Coach Zavisza '05 comes to Berkshire after spending the last three years at Pomfret School where she was an Assistant Director of Admissions, Head Varsity Girls Ice Hockey Coach, Assistant Varsity Lacrosse Coach, and Dorm Head in a boys dorm. Coach Zavisza led the Pomfret Girls Hockey team to the New England Girls Ice Hockey Prep School Championship quarter finals during the 2014 season and to the Championship game during the 2015 season. Prior to her work at Pomfret, Coach Zavisza worked at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, as a Sports Event Manager at ESPN Wide World of Sports. She is a graduate of Berkshire School ('05) and a 2009 graduate of Boston College, where she enjoyed a successful career as a member of the Womens' Ice Hockey team winning three Beanpot Championships, made two NCAA appearances including one trip to the Frozen Four, and earned Hockey East First and Second team Honors. Coach Zavisza was also a member of the U.S. Women's Ice Hockey National Team Program while she attended Boston College. At Berkshire, she won a New England Girls Ice Hockey Prep School Championship in 2003, and won a New England Championship in Shot Put, Discus, and Javelin. Coach Zavisza also earned All-American Honors in the Javelin at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in 2005.
At Berkshire, Coach Zavisza will serve as Associate Director of Admissions, Head Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Coach, Assistant Track & Field Coach, and a Dorm Parent in Allen.

Sylvia Gappa is heading into her 16th season as a coach with the Berkshire girls’ varsity hockey program. During her time coaching at Berkshire, the Bears have been to the playoffs nine times and captured the Division I New England Championship twice (2003, 2006). After assisting with the team for eight years, Gappa took over as the head coach in the 2008–2009 season. During her six years as the head of the program, her teams have compiled a record of 81–54–12.
Coach Gappa grew up playing hockey in Nova Scotia in the boys' program. She also played for the Pictou County girls' club program and then for team Nova Scotia in the 1995 Canada Games. At the conclusion of her college hockey career, she played for Nova Scotia's senior women's team for a couple of years in the Canadian Nationals tournament.
Coach Gappa went to Middlebury College where she played ice hockey for four years and softball during her sophomore year. As a member of the Middlebury women's team she was named to the All-ECAC team for all four years and the All-American team in her final two years. As a senior, Coach Gappa was awarded the ECAC Player of the Year award as well as the National Player of the year award. Over her four years at Middlebury, the women's team won four ECAC titles and captured the Div. III national tournament her senior year, the first year of its existence.

Ms. Woodworth is going into her fourth season with the girls Varsity
Hockey team at Berkshire. After attending the Taft School ('07), where
she captained the Varsity Field Hockey, Ice Hockey and Lacrosse teams,
Ms. Woodworth went on to continue her hockey career at Middlebury
College ('11). During her tenure the team attended the NCAA tournament
all four years and earned two NESCAC championships. In addition to
coaching hockey, Ms. Woodworth teaches U.S. History, works in the
admission office, coaches the Varsity Field Hockey team, and serves
as House Head in Godman Dormitory.
