Hockey - Boys Varsity
|Date:||January 25, 2014|
|Score:||Berkshire 2 - Salisbury 3|
The boys varsity hockey team traveled down the road to Salisbury on Saturday for the latest installment in what has become a healthy rivalry between the two teams. The snow falling outside couldn't keep the spectators away as a sizable crowd filed into Salisbury's Flood Arena to watch the day's action.
Salisbury jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after a defensive zone turnover mid-way through the first period. The two teams settled in after that as they traded opportunities on both ends of the ice. Berkshire came out playing well in the second and out-chances the Knights, but would fall behind 2-0 when Salisbury capitalized on a 3 on 2 rush that immediately followed a grade A chance on the other end of the rink. Berkshire stayed the course and the Higgins-O'Connor-Thompson line led the way offensively as they would net two goals in the second period to pull the Bears back to even.The two teams exchanged chances in the final period and it looked like the game would be headed to overtime as the clock ticked down, but a sharp angle shot off a faceoff in the Berkshire zone had eyes. The shot made its way through traffic and into the Berkshire net with 13 seconds left in the game. It was a heartbreaking way to finish the game, but the Bears played hard all day. Fans on hand were treated to a well-played prep hockey game. Though only one team walked away with the win, both teams represented themselves and their schools very well on this day.
