Lacrosse - Boys Junior Varsity vs. The Loomis Chaffee School

Event Type: Regular

Date: April 12, 2014

Event Recap:
The Berkshire JV Boys Lacrosse team defeated Loomis Chaffee 11-4 on Saturday for their first win of the year! The Bears put forth their best effort thus far and were rewarded with a well deserved victory.
Goalie Yuze Zhang made 6 saves on the day, many from point blank range.
The close defense; Tyler Smith, Kevin Crabtree, Matt Licata, and Sam Mogul, played their best game of the year and were dominant at times. They cleared the ball well, led the transition offense (Tyler Smith ran coast to coast for a goal), and killed 7 penalties, totaling 5 minutes of man-down time!
Derrick Burt continues to improve at LSM, scooping up a ton of groundballs off the wing, and pushing the ball in transition. Derrick had an assist against Loomis.
Liam Thor won over 50% at the face-off 'x' and continues to get better.
James Funderburg played in his first game of the year and had a huge hit to announce his presence.
The offense was led by Andrew Koudijs in his first game back for the Bears (2 goals and 2 assists). Nine different players scored, and six of our goals were assisted:
Andrew Koudijs (2, 2)
Sam Merrill (1, 1)
Larry Matt (2, 0)
Ehan Keator (1, 0)
Derrick Bury (0, 1)
Tyler Smith (1, 0)
Chris Zaffanella (1, 2)
Peter Giordano (1, 0)
Luke Amero (1, 0)
Charlie Goldstein (1, 0)
The highlight of the game occurred in the fourth quarter. Josiah Tolvo delivered a crushing hit at midfield; we pushed the ball in transition to Andrew Koudijs who ripped a shot off the post and into the stick of Charlie Goldstein who buried the ball in the back of the net. Charlie is new to the game, and it was his first lacrosse goal ever. The look of sheer joy on his face was priceless.
The Bears play at Taft on Wednesday.
