Softball - Girls Junior Varsity
vs. Canterbury School
|Date:||May 7, 2014|
On a day when a third of the team came straight to the team bus from the AP Calculus exam, the JV Bears picked up where they left off against Kent, scoring 13 runs on 9 hits and leading the game from wire to wire. This was a true offensive and defensive win for the Bears, who hit timely and well-placed balls to take advantage of runners on base, and played strong defense in both the infield and outfield. In particular, Mary Gao banged out two hits and scored three times, pitcher Colleen Devanney helped her cause by lacing the ball up the middle for 3 hits and came around twice to score and catcher Jenalyn Rembish had a hit and two walks in her four plate appearances, and scored three times. Two notable at-bats, one by Jenalyn and one by Juyoung Lee, were reminiscent of major league baseball, when both girls fouled off pitch after pitch before earning walks off the Canterbury pitcher. One the defensive side, Colleen struck out 8 and walked only 3, Mary Gao made two nice fly ball outs in center field, nearly doubling the runner off first on one of them and Colleen and Jenalyn combined to cut down the lead Canterbury runner at home to snuff out a nascent Saints rally in the 3rd inning.
The Bears host Rumsey Hall on Wednesday 5/14 and then visit the IMS Falcons on Friday, 5/16
