Event Recap:By Assistant Coach Cronze The 7-2 Berkshire bears extended their win streak to five games, beating Avon Old Farms 5-3 on Wednesday afternoon and safeguarding a trip to Chipotle on the way home. (The afternoon was further sweetened by a quick post-prandial stop at Ben & Jerry's. What are the odds of that?!) The Bears opened the game up with some small ball. Max Miller led off with a bunt, stole second, advanced on a passed ball, and scored on a hard ground ball by Trevor Berry (who also tacked on an RBI single later in the game). That was one of three hits for Miller, who also added a couple of doubles. Chris Cooke managed two hits for the Bears while Jake Grant had the biggest fly of the day with a lofty double to right center. Berkshire got strong pitching from the combination of Pat Frey, who allowed just a run in five innings; Brady Wilson, who pitched an adventurous sixth; and Trevor Berry, who came on in the seventh and slammed the door on the host team's hopes. The pitchers were aided by a solid defensive performance all around, with Cooke contributing some sharp plays at short and Calder Ryan forsaking his usual post on the hot corner for a gutsy guest appearance at first.
