Event Recap:At our first home game of the season, the Lady Bears faced off against the Wild Boars of Choate. Despite an inspiring pump up speech from Coach Anselmi that involved a mind blowing metaphor about bull riding, Berkshire came out of the gates a little hesitant and found themselves down 3-0 ten minutes into the first half. However, after a timeout, the Lady Bears were back in the game. Kenzie Lancaster ’15 had four goals, one of which she streaked down the field like Halley’s Comet, completely untouchable, before scoring with ease. Sandra Stephan '15 was an anchor in the midfield, scoring one goal, picking up four ground balls and recording two key interceptions. Rounding out this strong play, Sophia Peluso ’16, Sabrina Tattersfield '16, and Molly Crabtree '15 fought hard every moment of the game in between restraining lines, and were rewarded with 6 goals, collectively. Maggie Curran ’18 led an incredible rally in the second with 7 saves, preserving the 12-8 lead. Her play inspired the Berkshire fan section to lead a cheer of “she’s only a freshman," leaving the Choate coaches scratching their heads about the longevity of Berkshire’s lacrosse program. What led to this win was Berkshire’s team strong belief that “you cannot win on talent alone” (Herb Brooks), something instilled in the team’s DNA by Mrs. Maher, and the tool that will propel this team into their next game against Miss Porter's on Saturday.
