Lacrosse - Boys Varsity
vs. Choate Rosemary Hall
|Date:||May 4, 2013|
|Score:||5 - 4|
Berkshire welcomed Choate to campus on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The boys were a bit tired from the hard-fought battle against Taft the night before and were looking to get back to their winning ways. Berkshire started off the game on a strong note as Robbie Fiamengo took a Charlie Corcoran pass and buried a shot just a minute and thirty seconds into the game. Three minutes later Quin Pompi joined the party and put the Bears up 2-0. The defenses for both teams clamped down after that and the Bears took that 2-0 lead into halftime.
The second half saw Choate score its first goal of the game, only to have Fiamengo bury an outside shot after goalie Tyler Behring made a big save and hit (hockey assist) Matty Wieczorek (assist) for a face break. Fifteen seconds later, Sam Hahn won his faceoff and took the ball to the rack, scoring a huge goal to put the Bears up 4-1. That is how things would stay until four minutes left in the game when Fiamengo scored his third goal of the game while drawing a penalty to put the Bears up 5-1. As Berkshire took a deep breath, Choate showed that they were not going to go away quietly as they made a feverish comeback, netting three goals in the final two and half minutes before the Bears closed the door and won 5-4.
The defense of Jack O’Donoghue, Cooper Fersen, Ryan Savage, George Fowlkes, Joe Pezza and Matty Wieczorek were huge in helping to limit the talented Choate team as was goal keeper Tyler Behring who made 11 saves in the contest. Face off specialist Sam Hahn also had a great game for the Bears winning 9 of his 12 draws. With the win Berkshire has won 4 of its last 6 games. The Bears do not have time sit back and enjoy the win because they are welcoming Westy to campus on Wednesday.
