Crew - Girls Varsity
|Date:||May 17, 2014|
Berkshire Girls' Crew traveled to scenic Lake Lilinonah in New Milford, CT Saturday to take on host Canterbury as well as Southfield, Hopkins, and Derryfield. The first boat of Sophie "Outta here" Perekslis, '14, Annette "Sunblock" Key, '16, Arwen "Selection Camp!" Neski, '15, "Walk Away" Renee Dreher, '15, and cox Olivia "2" Good, '15, did not let the long row to the starting line distract them, as they rowed an aggressive 1,500 meters to take the win, six seconds ahead of Southfield and 15 ahead of Canterbury.
The second boat of Molly "MONeill" O'Neill, '17, Morgan "pre-industrial" Handwerker, '15, Moet "et Chandon" Matsuoka, '17, Lindsy "Headgear" Dario, '17, and cox Lulu "Lemon" Kauffman, '17, rowed a smooth race, finishing third behind Southfield and Hopkins, but ahead of Canterbury and Derryfield.
It has been a remarkable season for Girls' Crew, as first boat racked up overall wins at Pomfret, the Alumnae Cup, and at Canterbury, as well as a thrilling win in their heat at Founder's Day. They accumulated a 19-5 overall record, with their only losses coming to Choate on the opening day, and to Connecticut Boat Club, Cincinnati Juniors, Kent, and Choate (again) in the Grand Finals at Founder's Day. Second Boat, all novices, despite not winning races outright, always finished with other boats behind them. It was announced Monday that First Boat earned a #7 seed for New Englands, the highest ranking ever for a Berkshire girls' boat. Second Boat, unfortunately did not qualify.
Congratulations to all the girls for a great season, and we'll see you in Worcester for NEIRAs on Saturday!
