Crew - Girls Varsity
Berkshire's Girls’ Crew trains and races in the spring season. We start our season with a week-long trip to Tampa, Florida during spring break. This is a great chance for novices to learn the sport in a comfortable setting and for experienced rowers to get back into the swing of the sport. Back at school, we practice daily at our boathouse on Long Pond, in nearby Lakeville, CT. The season features 1500 meter sprint races against scholastic competition such as Taft, Choate, Gunnery and Pomfret and culminates with the prestigious NEIRA Championships in Worcester on the last weekend in May. In addition to spring racing, we enter a boat in the Head of the Charles regatta in Boston each fall.
Berkshire Girls’ Crew is open to all students who are looking for a challenge, interested in trying something new and willing to push themselves athletically. Although some girls arrive with rowing experience, the majority of rowers arrive at Berkshire with no previous experience in the sport, simply a desire to try. Within their first season, new rowers are often challenging for seats in the top two (varsity) boats.
Berkshire crew trains at the Norman White Boathouse at Camp Sloane in Lakeville, CT. In addition, we use the facilities at the Jackman Stewart Athletic Center on campus, which houses our 10 Concept 2 ergometers, a full weight room and athletic trainers’ offices.
Some recent Berkshire alums have gone on to row for:
