Event Recap:

Girls' crew hosted Canterbury, Southfield, and Hopkins for the final home race of the season on Saturday.  It was also the final race for some of our seniors: Maddie Bricken, Rhi Vanderbeek, and Julia Reger.  Sissi Wang will compete this Wednesday in the Lower Boat Regatta, and Maddy Maher will be racing on Saturday at New Englands.  But on to the racing.

2nd boat led off the regatta, finishing second behind a strong Southfield entry, but ahead of the boats from Canterbury and Hopkins.  Maddie "Denison" Bricken, '13, set a punishing pace, but Annette "Ginger" Key, '16, Rhiannon "Lehigh" Vanderbeek, '13, and Julia "Conn Coll" Reger, '13, were up to the challenge.  Cox Addie "Out of Africa" Bullock, '14, avoided danger when the Southfield boat crossed her path, and drove her crew to a solid finish.

1st boat handled their competition with aplomb, pulling away in the second 500 to finish 13 seconds ahead of a hard-working Canterbury crew.  Sophie "The Millerton Mauler" Perekslis, '14, Juliet "The Greenwich Grappler" Duplessie, '16, Arwen "The Ashley Falls Assassin" Neski, '15, Maddy "The Berkshire Brawler" Maher, '13, and cox Olivia "The Rumsey Rattlesnake" Good, '15, combined to turn in an impressive 5:44 1500, demonstrating their readiness for the all-in cage match that is the NEIRA regatta.

3rd boat rowed one of their better pieces of the year, racing neck and neck with Southfield most of the way down the course.  With 250 meters left it was anyone's race, but Southfield was able to maintain their composure and drive the rating up effectively, pulling away for the win.  Sami "These boots were made for" Walkingshaw, '15, Sissi "Cal" Wang, '13, Renee "Sidewinder" Dreher, '15, Julia "Deutschland" Hengstmann, '15, and cox Katie "The Canaan Crippler" Soper, '16, worked hard all the way down the lake, and showed tremendous improvement over the course of the week.

What's left?  Well, some clean-up and boat washing, a chance for Olivia and Katie to row and for Addie to drive the launch, a 3rd boat trip to the Lower Boat Regatta, and 1st boat's race at New Englands.  Senior dinner, prize night, Maddie, Maddy, Sissi, Rhi, and Julia's graduation, and then another season is done.  Thanks to all the rowers and all the parents that made this season so much fun.
