Tennis - Boys Varsity vs. The Taft School

Event Type: Regular

Date: April 30, 2014

Event Recap:

With the weather still not cooperating… the Bears traveled down Route 63 to Watertown, CT to play Taft at their indoor facility.  After a good two days of practice, Coach Bjurlin was excited to see more aggressive play including a serve and volley approach as well as a chip and charge approach from his teams. But the surface and a very strong Red Rhino team prevented the Bears from establishing any real rhythm. Boyle/van der Lee get the nod for an excellent effort at #2 doubles. From there, the Bears once again showed flashes of a talented team but couldn’t maintain enough consistency to put a real dent in the Taft armor. Quentin van der Lee (‘16) continues his hot streak dispatching of his opponent in straight sets. Yanno Fernandez (’16) also playing some great tennis, battled in three close sets, but came up just short. Tanner Boyle (’17), Noah Wilson (’15), PJ Webb (’15) and Mikey Petersen (’17) all produced breath-taking shots and wonderful points but all fell in straight sets to tough opponents. After two strong matches with Hotchkiss and Taft away from the mountain, the Bears will look forward to hosting Canterbury on Saturday. Final score Berkshire 1 – Taft 6.
