Tennis - Boys Varsity vs. Suffield

Event Type: Regular

Date: April 9, 2014

Event Recap:

The Bears traveled to Suffield, CT to take on Suffield Academy on Wednesday, April 9.

SA, boasting a talented sophomore and a couple of experienced seniors, looked to be a real test for the Bears. But another good effort in both the doubles (first) and singles (second) portions helped propel the Bears to a solid 6-1 victory. Petersen (’17) and Warsinske (’14) started the good effort disposing of their opponents quickly. Boyle (’17) and van der Lee (’16) used solid play late in the set to assure the Bears of the doubles point. After that, the consistency displayed by all the Bears in singles seemed to be the reason for many of the victories. Yanno Fernandez (’16) out-played his opponent. Mikey Petersen (’17) continued to blend power and consistency to finish off his opponent. Tanner Boyle (’17), notching his fist win at #2 singles, did exactly what is expected to defeat his opponent.  Quentin van der Lee (’16) needed only half the time as he found the recipe of down-the-middle was too much for his opponent. PJ Webb (’15) battled using his trademark chip, charge and volley to win. All in all, Coach Bjurlin was very happy with his team’s focus and execution on a tough, windy day. Final score: 6-1 win. The Bears travel to NMH on Saturday.
