Field Hockey - Girls Varsity
vs. Ethel Walker
|Date:||September 23, 2013|
|Score:||Berkshire 5 - Ethel Walker 1|
Berkshire Record: 1-2-0
Playing on a Monday is never easy. After a full day of school, and a tough game on Saturday, this was a difficult one to get up for; however, as soon as the Bears stepped on the field, they showed they were ready to play. This was a must win for the Bears. We hoped we could get on the scoreboard early, feel what it is like to put the ball in the net, and then have an opportunity to play athletes who didn't get to see the field against Deerfield and GA.
Playing with a new formation, we took advantage of four players on the forward line and scored early. Ronnie Lortie '14 tallied her first goal of the season just two minutes into the game off a pass from Sabrina Tattersfield '16. Sophie Perekslis '14 enjoyed her first game this season at forward and scored two goals back to back within five minutes of each other. Her first goal was assisted by Sandra Stephan '15 and her second by Georgia McClanahan '16 who tallied her first point of her Berkshire career. Georgia interrupted Sophie's hat trick by scoring her first career goal with ten minutes to play in the first half. Sophie assisted her goal. To complete the game and end the Bears' scoring, Sophie finalized her hat trick just four minutes into the second half off of a beautiful pass from Sophia Peluso '16. Ethel Walker did sneak one past Emily Czajkowski halfway through the second, however. Saves for the day: Ethel Walker with 15 and Berkshire with 3.Jamie Ernst '15 played her first ever field hockey game and showed her grit and tenacity as a winger. It was nice to see Natalie Harrington '16 back on the field after being sidelined by a muscle pull. Overall, it was a great day to be a Bear.
