Field Hockey - Girls Varsity
vs. Miss Porter's
|Date:||November 6, 2013|
|Score:||Berkshire 4 - Miss Porter's 0|
Berkshire Record: 7-7-1
We entered this week with the goal of going 2-0 in our final games of the season. After reading the recent standings, we were just barely ahead of Miss Porters in the standings which ultimately will decide New England playoff standings. Thanks to Joe Giulian, we were able to play on grass on Tuesday to prepare for the away tilt. Although we began warm-ups slightly lethargic and we were missing team captain Ronnie Lortie '14 due to an injury, we stepped up our focus and took charge on the field.
Our first goal came just four minutes into the game off of a new corner play we had been looking to perfect over the last few days. Maddie Bietler '17 (who had been recently brought up from JV) took a solid shot on net and as the rebound went wide, Natalie Harrington '16 hammered it home to score what would become the game winner.
We continued to put pressure on the Porters half of the field, but could not score for the rest of the half. Porters mounted some offensive pressure, but could not muster a shot on net as our defense was very solid today. Alli Sugar '16 was a wall at the center back position; flanked by Maureen McCarthy '14 and Allegra Horstmann '14 the three were able to keep the circle fairly clean today. Annette Key '16 and Renee Dreher '15 subbed in and continued the stalwart D.
Sophie Perekslis '14 scored her two goals of the game at the 17:14 mark and the 9:55 mark of the second half. Her first goal was assisted by Olivia Good '15 who played her best game of the season. Olivia was all over the field and frequently stick-handling around Porter midfielders, and connecting on solid passes to our forwards. Sophie's second goal was off another corner and was assisted by Natalie Harrington. Maddie Bietler scored her first goal as a varsity player at the 8:41 mark off an assist from Sandra Stephan '15. But the best part of the day just might have been the dinner at Chipotle courtesy of the Czajkowskis and Stephans - THANK YOU!
This was an important win for the Bears. We look forward to closing out our regular season against Pomfret at Berkshire on Saturday as we honor our Seniors for their contributions to our team and program. We cannot wait to take the field as we still have yet to put together 60 minutes of consistent, hard-fought, well-executed field hockey. Saturday just might be our day! Please come out and support: 2:30 at home.
