Soccer - Boys Thirds
|Date:||September 29, 2012|
On Saturday, the entire Bears thirds team boarded the bus for the long trip to Washington, CT to play the Gunnery. Though few in number, the Gunnery team played hard and provided a tough defense. The Bears peppered the Gunnery goal all game, but came away with two goals. Early in the first half, Patrick Frey scored on a volley from the left side. We hoped this was a sign of things to come. Despite what seemed like an endless assault on the Gunnery, we held a slim 1-0 lead at half.
The game continued on the same pace in the second half. Unfortunately, Berkshire was called for a penalty kick in the middle of the second half and Gunnery converted, tying the game 1-1. Finally, near the end of the game, Jack Gustavson knocked in the game winner with time running down, and the Bears held on for a slim 2-1 victory. Henry Thomas and Bryce Laigle played well in the goal. Bears midfielder Hunter Reynolds played an outstanding game, as did Connor Shalleck and Quintin Pollart at defense. Jim Strett played another good game at defense and Sam Rusoff provided some great defensive moments as well. On Wednesday the Bears travel to Millbrook.
