After an afternoon on the ropes course this Thursday, the Bears were ready to transfer the skills we worked on (communicate, trust and support each other) to the field. That was certainly the case today as the bears worked well as a team to earn a 7-2 victory. The first came from striker Zachariah Buteux '16 who tracked a great punt by Liam Thor '17 into the 18 and then played the bounce over the keeper to slot the ball in. He scored our second as well off a great pass by midfielder Gerry Giminez-Valdez '15. Just outside the 18 he ripped it past the keeper and into the side netting. Juan Cedeno ' 17 notched our third goal after some great one two combination play with Jason Tao ' 16. Tao earned our next goal with Larry Matt ' 16 assisting. While a great goal, his celebration stole the show. The Bears went in to half with a 4-0 lead and feeling comfortable.
The second half saw more great possession by the Bears. Winger Duncan Anderson '17 made a great play down the wing and hit a fantastic cross. Opposite winger Josiah Tolvo '16 played it back out to Chris Kreke '15 who volleyed the ball thru several defenders for our fifth goal. Canterbury began to put the Bears under more pressure and notched a goal off of a misjudged cross. Seconds later Duncan was fouled in Canterbury's box and Gerry lifted the penalty curse on the team by gently slotting the ball just inside the post to give Berkshire a 6-1 lead. Canterbury again fought hard to put the Bears under pressure and was able to score a second late in the half off a tough cross. The Bears continued to apply pressure in the final minutes and Juan Cedeno played a ball through the keeper's legs to a streaking Duncan Anderson '17 who notched his first goal of the season. It was a great effort by the Bears.
Thanks to the Buteux's for supplying snacks at the end of the game and to all the parents for the continued support.
