Soccer - Boys Junior Varsity vs. Salisbury School

Event Type: Regular

Date: November 10, 2012

Score:1 - 1

Event Recap:

In our last game of what has been a very successful season, the Bears played a fantastic match on Salisbury's home turf.  Within the first ten minutes, Berkshire had generated multiple scoring opportunities.  Striker Sam Lewis '14 struck a ball over the cross bar from 12 yards out.  Fellow striker and co-captain Max Hare '13 made a great wide run on a through ball from Lewis but his shot was saved by the keeper.  Hare had a second shot seconds later off a cross that bobbled around the six.  His shot went just wide.  It turned out to be that kind of day for the Bears as we continued to apply pressure but couldn't find the back of the net.  Despite our pressure, Salisbury was able to sneak a goal in midway through the first half to send us into halftime down 1-0.  Thankfully, Steven Halperin '13 made some great saves in the final minutes of the half to keep it 1-0.

The second half saw more of the same as JP Alvarez '16, Austin Brandt '14, Sam Merritt '14, and Jimmy McKee '15 all had great strikes on goal.  Off a long deep corner kick, striker Hunter Borwick '16 received the ball past the far post, headed it back across the goal, and the ball floated into the net.  It was a great goal and showcased Borwick's phenomenal aerial attacks!  Speaking of headers, co-captain Jack Benham '13 was a force to be reckoned with all game and he continued to lead with enthusiasm and grit on the field.  He rose head and shoulders above our opponents to win some essential defensive headers.

While we tied, it was a great game to watch and the Bears worked hard for all 80 minutes.  Thanks to all of the parents for the support (and donuts) and the coaches are looking forward to another strong season next year.
