Volleyball - Girls Varsity vs. Northfield Mount Hermon

Event Type: Regular

Date: October 3, 2012

Score:0 - 3

Event Recap:
(13-25; 13-25; 18-25)

The Bears made the trek north to the Vermont border to play the Hoggers of Northfield Mount Hermon School. At the end of the day, the Hoggers took a quick 3-0 victory over the Bears, who were unable to sustain any flow or team discipline.

In set one NMH jumped out to a 7-1 lead with sharp serves. Katie Moffett ’13 and Caitlin Kiene ’13 rallied the Bears to go in front 9-7; however, we could not maintain momentum. With the Hoggers serving well and taking advantage of Bear overpasses, NMH took set one 25-13. NMH then took their positive play from set one into set two and built an 18-8 lead during the first service rotation. Down 10-21, Caitlin’s two aces and a kill by Samone Defreese ’15 highlighted one of the few bright spots for Berkshire in the set. A Bear mistake returned the serve to NMH, who then closed out the set 25-13.

Set three was “déjà vu all over again.” The Hoggers not served consistently but also took advantage of our overpasses. With NMH in front 23-10, Caitlin used her powerful serve to fuel a seven-point scoring run for Berkshire. Katie Stonecipher ’15, who passed well all day, had a kill on an overpass during the run. Alas, a Hogger kill and then a Bear hitting error closed out a 25-18 win for NMH.

After a day of rest, the Bears will regroup and prepare for our next match. Moose went to Maddy Maher ’13 for her team spirit and steady support of her teammates. Bear goes to both Caitlin Kiene and Katie Stonecipher, both of whom played well in the match. On Saturday, October 6 (SAT Saturday) the Bears host the Wildcats of The Williston Northampton School at 3:30 in a rematch. We hope to see some of you at the Duryee Varsity Court.
