The Bears hosted The Taft School for their 2013 home opener.
Berkshire came ready to play and quickly put together some great
combination play in the middle of the field that sprung Keunna Dill
'14 who tapped in the ball to beat the sprawling Taft goalie. Ana
Alvarenga '15 got the assist on Berkshire's first goal of the season.
The Bears were able to score two more goals before the end of the
first half. Dill turned and took a shot from 25 yards out that found
the back of the net and then newcomer Sophie Roberts '16 was in the
right place off a cross and put a shot on net. The Taft keeper made
the original save, but Roberts showed some composure and placed the
ball in the corner of the goal. Taft picked up the pressure in the
last part of the first half, but the back line was able to keep the
shutout. Molly Crabtree '15 played an exceptional game in the
backfield, battling for balls on the wing against Taft's talented
Taft came to play in the second half and quickly scored to cut
Berkshire's lead to two goals. The Bears responded with a through
ball sent by Olivia Jansing '16 that Dill was able to touch and finish
for her third goal of the contest. Taft continued to pressure and
scored off a quality 25 yard shot to once again cut the lead to two.
Berkshire picked up their play and had several more quality chances in
front of the net late in the second half, and the defense did a solid
job of shutting down the Rhinos in the remaining minutes. Cam Biasin
'14 had another fine day in net, reading the play well and making
several athletic saves off set pieces.
Berkshire now has a string of away games, starting with Ethel Walker on Wednesday.
