Soccer - Girls Varsity vs. The Ethel Walker School

Event Type: Regular

Date: September 26, 2012

Score:4 - 1

Event Recap:
The Bears won their second game in a row on Wednesday against a much improved side from Ethel Walker. The Bears controlled much of the pace of play and possession in the early part of the first half but were unable to generate consistent scoring chances and when they did Ethel Walker's talented keeper was up to the task.
The Bears finally broke through in the 28th minute when freshman Eliza Stitcher beat her mark on the wing and fired a ball into the upper side netting from just inside the 18 yard box. Eliza quickly followed her first Berkshire goal with a second just five mutes later. With the Bears stuck in their end captain Rhi Vanderbeek won a ball in the defensive half a played a beautiful outlet to Keunna Dill. Dill found an open Stichter and the freshman winger calmly beat the Ethel Walker once again.
The Bears came out from the half with a 2-0 lead and quickly jumped on their opponent pinning them in their end. In the forty third minute Rhi Vanderbeek hit a great ball from 20 yards over the Ethel Walker goalie for her first of the season and it gave the Bears a 3-0 lead. The Bears closed out the scoring in the 55th minute when Keunna Dill got in alone on the keeper and though her first attempt was stopped she hammered in the rebound for her team leading 5th goal of the year and extended her scoring streak to three games.
The Bears closed out the game with several players making their varsity debut and receiving their first minutes of the season. The freshman duo of Caroline Slyer and Kate Klimaszewski did a nice job at striker relieving Keunna up top, Melody Barros stepped in and held down the midfield and Liliy Weil had some great touches and generated some very good opportunities during her run on the wing.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday against local class A rival Kent, and for the first time in a number of years will play on match on historic Stewart Pitch.
