The Chicken Man

For about three years, our boys, Burke (7) and Drew (6) only knew Twiggs as "The Chicken Man."  Twiggs used to raise chickens, and each spring he would invite the boys over to see the baby chicks.  We would take a walk over, beginning as early as when the boys were 1 and 2 years old, to visit "The Chicken Man."  Twiggs would teach the boys all about raising chickens, fending off predators, and even about butchering chickens when the time came.  After a few visits, we walked into the dining hall one day and I saw my boys staring up at the portrait of Twiggs hanging on the wall.  One of them pointed at it and asked, "Is that The Chicken Man?"  It is only in the past year that they have learned of Twiggs' true name.
