Simons '18 Earns MVP of New England Track and Field Championship

Ahria Simons '18 broke a school record on his way to an impressive showing at the NEPSTA Division II Track and Field Championship held May 20 at Williston-Northampton School.

Simons took first place in the boys long jump, with back-to-back jumps of 22 ft 1 in. In addition, he won the triple jump competition for the second consecutive year with a distance of 46 feet.

Simons also led Berkshire's 4X100 meter team to a second place finish and crossed the finish line two-tenths of a second behind the top 100 meter dash runner.

For his efforts, Simons was named MVP of the championship.

Jacob Shaffelburg, who is also a member of Berkshire's 4X100 meter team, was the top finisher in the boys individual 400 meter race. He crossed the finish line in 49.45.

Berkshire's girls 4X100 relay team of Lexi Fortune '18, Claudia Gripenberg '18, Madi Gomez '20, and Bianca Barth '20 captured first place in the event, edging out Worcester Academy.

The girls team finished the day third overall while the the boys finished fifth overall.
