Boys Ski Team Captures Class A Title

The Berkshire School boys ski team captured the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class A Championship on Feb. 15, held at Mount Sunapee, New Hampshire.

The title is the first Class A championship for the boys team, which moved to the top ski division in 2013 after dominating the Class B division for several years. The Bears had finished the previous four years with two second and two third place finishes in the championship races.

Co-captain Lyons Brown '18 led the team with a second-place finish in both the Slalom and Giant Slalom, and a second-place overall finish. Co-captain Rawson Clough '17 ended the afternoon fifth overall.

Head coach John Borwick '81 shared after the victory, "When our fifth skier, Gavin Kline '19, ran his second run in the slalom, his entire team awaited and cheered him through the finish. They then got together as a group, reveled in the successful completion of the race, and then proceeded to the lift which amounted to the last ride up prior to the ski area closing. It was special to stand with these boys at the top of the slalom in the quiet of the snowfall, and after everyone had left the hill, and simply bask in what they all accomplished as individuals all for the betterment of their team. Not a lot of talk, just simply looking at each other, and simply smiling."

Berkshire's girls team earned a fifth place overall finish, led by Eva Clough '18 and MacKenzie Hatch '19.

Rawson Clough '17 and Liam Carroll '19 joined Brown, Clough and Hatch as selections to the 2017 All-New England ski team.
