ABOUT THE PLAY

Berkshire School’s Theater and Music Departments are presenting their winter production, “Into the Woods,” featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. Produced by special arrangement with Music Theater International.

Stephen Sondheim’s "Into the Woods" is legendary in the musical theater world and features the combined stories of many famous fairy tale characters, as we watch while the ever-difficult question is played out before our eyes, “What happens after happily ever after?”

With constant humor, unbeatable music, and classic moments from well-loved characters including Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jack (and his faithful cow, Milky White), a pair of handsome (but shallow) princes, a wolf, a witch, and more, it’s a familiar, fun, and entertaining night at the theater.

Theater Program Director Jesse Howard says “Expect the tropes and joys you’ve come to love from classic fairy tales, and also be ready for some unexpected twists and turns along the path. Backed by a truly amazing cast, breathtaking scenery and lighting, and a live band, you won’t regret coming on the journey with us!”

"Into the Woods” opens Thursday, February 15 at 7:30 pm and runs Friday, February 16 and Saturday, February 17 at 7:30 pm in Berkshire School’s Allen Theater. No reservations are required, but arrive early for best seats. There is a $2 suggested donation at the door. Light refreshments will be available at intermission. The play runs about 2.5 hours with a 15-minute intermission.
