Baseball - Varsity

Berkshire School has a rich baseball tradition—the school has fielded a team every year since Seaver Buck founded Berkshire in 1907—and the crack-of-the-bat can still be heard under the Mountain over one hundred years later. The Bears play a 16 game regular season, which includes 14 games in the competitive Western New England Prep Baseball League (WNEPBL). In order to prepare for the season, the program offers a spring trip to Florida every March for varsity candidates.
The varsity team has been competitive in the WNEPBL in the recent past, earning a playoff spot in four of the last eleven seasons and making it to the championship game two of the last ten years. The 2024 squad finished third in the Young Division and fifth overall in the WNEPBL. The league recognized several players for their individual contributions last season: Adan Jiminian '26 and Dylan Gage '24 were selected to the First All-league Team and Zach Redlund '24 and Will Matthews '24 were on the Second All-league Team. Jiminian '26 also received All-NEPSAC honors and Gage was a All-NEPSAC Honorable Mention. We congratulate these award winners and the coaching staff looks forward to working with the 2025 team to reach their team and individual goals for the season.
Overall, playing quality baseball is the focus of our program, and we are looking for players who want to compete, enjoy working hard, and be accountable to their teammates. We also have the task of preparing players for baseball beyond Berkshire, which includes working with each player interested in playing at the collegiate level to find a school and program that is a good fit. Former Berkshire players are currently playing for Swarthmore College (DIII), Gettysburg College (DIII), Wagner College (DI), Catholic University (DIII), Wheaton College (DIII), Merrimack College (DI), Bard College (DIII), and SUNY Purchase (DIII)
Head coach Brian Rodriguez ’16 returned to Berkshire in 2021, first as a math teacher and assistant coach, and more recently stepping into the role of head varsity baseball coach in 2024. A two-sport athlete at Berkshire, Brian went on to pitch for Northeastern University, where he earned CAA All-Rookie honors in his freshman year and posted a standout 1.55 ERA as a reliever. Brian lives on campus with his wife, Taylor, and their daughter.
