Basketball - Boys Varsity

The first chapter in the over a century-long history of Berkshire Basketball began with the 1913 Greens winning 80-percent of their games. For more than 100 years, Berkshire has begun each season with the same goal: A Standard of Excellence. The Standard is the Standard. Berkshire competes in the Class A Division of the storied New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) league. The season culminates with an 8-team Playoff where a champion is crowned. Individual development is nurtured in a 'team first' environment. The basketball program that has enjoyed multiple 20-win seasons, and has twice achieved the ultimate team prize of winning the NEPSAC Championship. We want members of our program to approach each day with the mindset of maximizing every opportunity life under the Mountain has to offer. Berkshire Basketball annually sends student-athletes to all three levels of NCAA Basketball.

Wilbur Allen joined Berkshire in the fall of 2023 and was named head coach following the 2023-24 season. Prior to Berkshire, Coach Allen spent more than a decade as a basketball coach at the high school and collegiate level, including at his high school alma mater, Oak Hill Academy in Virginia. While at Oak Hill, the Warriors compiled a 175-15 record, including a national championship season of 44-0 and a national runner-up season of 40-1 in 2012 and 2009, respectively.
After working at the NBA Yao School in Beijing China, Allen joined the University of Mississippi’s (Ole Miss) men’s basketball staff. He worked at Ole Miss for two seasons, one of which the team advanced to the quarterfinals of the NIT. Most recently, he was a member of the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s (UAB) basketball program. The Blazers were 49-15 with Allen on staff, which included winning a school-record 27 games in 2022. Also during that season, UAB captured the Conference USA Tournament Championship to earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
During his coaching career, Allen has helped develop eight student-athletes who have gone on to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and more than 20 professional athletes overall. He has an International Business degree from Temple University, where he was a 4-year member of the basketball team under Hall of Fame Coach, John Chaney. In addition to his coaching duties at Berkshire, he is a member of the Duty Team and serves as Assistant Director of Admissions.
