Academic Resources

Berkshire recognizes that students thrive in different academic environments and provides resources to support students’ various styles of learning. Faculty are available for help beyond the academic day to work with students in one-on-one and small group settings. Study halls allow for quiet study six nights each week in dormitories, academic spaces, and the library.

The below resources are available to all students to help support their academic engagement and take full advantage of the curriculum.

OFFICE HOURS

Faculty are available to meet with students two mornings each week prior to the start of the academic day.

ONE-ON-ONE MEETINGS

Faculty are available to meet with students by appointment.

STRUCTURED STUDY HALL

Third Form study hall is offered two nights per week, from 8:00-10:00 p.m., in addition to regularly scheduled study hall.

KENEFICK CENTER FOR LEARNING

The Kenefick Center for Learning (KCL) is named in honor of Barbara Kenefick, who founded Berkshire’s Academic Support Program in 1992. The KCL is fully integrated into the life of the school and offers resources such as study skills, time-management skills, and subject-specific tutoring.

MATH RESOURCE CENTER

The center assists students in completing math assignments and helps students to develop their quantitative skills. We work hard to support a student’s thought process, provide immediate feedback, and help students to clarify misconceptions. We will not solve problems for a student but will offer guidance to help students develop an understanding of a concept. In addition, our goal is to help students gain the necessary confidence in his or her abilities to complete assignments effectively without assistance. Priority will be given to students in Algebra and Geometry courses.

THE WRITING CENTER

The Writing Center supports students at all stages of the writing process, empowering them to develop their own authentic voices as they learn the most effective ways to communicate. Students can work on all aspects of their craft, from thinking critically to formulating evidence-based arguments to expressing themselves clearly and creatively. Our peer tutors provide assistance with class assignments, college essays, and other writing projects while encouraging students’ growth as writers and scholars.
