Ryan Summers '13 (Westfield, MA) was selected as a tri-captain by teammates and coaches for the 2017 Louisville Cardinals baseball season. After redshirting his freshman year, Summers has contributed significantly in his years as a Cardinal with 37 collegiate starts and 108 appearances. The Cardinals will be seeking their third consecutive ACC Atlantic Division Championship title this spring.
During his career at Berkshire, Summers was a senior captain, two-time All-Star for the New England Prep Baseball League, Perfect Game All-Region First Team selection, and the 2013 NEPBL Prep League Player of the Year. Ryan had an immediate impact for the Bears due to his "extraordinary arm, speed, and power with an ability to be a threat in the middle of the line-up," according to head coach Jason Gappa.
"What made Ryan such a special player was the way he embraced his leadership role off the field as well. He was a very approachable leader who made the younger guys in our program feel valued and respected." Summers has had a lasting impression under the Mountain, helping to build a healthy culture across athletics. In addition to his contributions on Thomas H. Young Field, he was a multiple-sport athlete lettering in soccer, football, and baseball and served as prefect in DeWindt dormitory.
