Lucia Mulder

Today at all-school meeting, Head of School Pieter Mulder announced the two 2018 Kellogg Vacation Fund award winners: Barbara Going and Jasper Turner.

Established by Elizabeth Kellogg in memory of her late husband James C. Kellogg III '33, a former president of the Board of Trustees, the fund was created to recognize the strong work ethic of the community and must be used, according to the fund criterion, "in the pursuit of pleasure -- or something that is absolutely fun and relaxing."

"Each year the Kellogg grants are awarded to recognize and honor two people who have contributed to our school community in a special way by virtue of their tenure and their commitment," said Mr. Mulder.

Mr. Mulder's award citations are below:

"This year's first recipient has been at Berkshire since 2000, working tirelessly in the Student Health Center to ensure our students lead healthy, well-balanced lives. She is famously kind to everyone, stays until every student has been seen, and handles everything that comes her way with patience, grace, and compassion. Beyond the Health Center, she takes a genuine interest in our students, attending plays and concerts throughout the year, and making it clear that her work at Berkshire is not a job but a chance to serve and connect with our community.

Her faculty and staff colleagues spoke clearly in their nominations this year, and it is my great privilege to award this year's first Kellogg Grant to Barbara Going.

Our second recipient has served Berkshire in a number of roles since joining us in 2005. He is a talented and inspiring math teacher and math department chair, a successful coach in both boys soccer and squash, a trusted advisor to countless students, and a role model and mentor for faculty and staff, relishing conversations about teaching, schools, and the broader world of education. Beyond these obvious contributions, he also helps everyone in our community see the bright side of our days with his unfailing optimism and infectious enthusiasm. It's hard to imagine a day when he doesn't have a huge grin and a "let's get after it" attitude about everything at Berkshire.

While he often eagerly dodges the spotlight, everyone here knows he is hugely deserving of it. Our second Kellogg Grant is awarded to Jasper Turner."
