Boys Varsity Squash made a statement on the national stage this past winter, capturing the Division III title at the U.S. High School Team Squash Championships in Philadelphia on February 22. The program also produced one of the top-ranked high school players in the country.

The Bears went 4–0 at the national tournament, defeating Milton Academy 4–3 in the final to secure Berkshire’s first national championship since 2018 (Division IV).

Under Head Coach Chris Perkins, the boys squash team put together an impressive postseason run, finishing second among 16 teams at the Class B New England Championship in Groton, Mass., on March 1. The Bears showcased depth throughout the lineup, with contributions coming from across the roster in both competitions.

Leading the charge was Ahmed Abdel Rahim ’26, who finished the 2025–2026 season as the No. 1-ranked high school player in the country. Abdel Rahim will continue his squash career at the University of Pennsylvania this winter. Edison Shergalis ’27, who played at No. 7 in the lineup, also delivered a standout performance, going undefeated at 7–0 across both the New England and High School National tournaments.

“Having played squash the prior season and coming out of Nationals only placing third in Division IV, the team wanted to improve,” Shergalis said. “Not having won a championship since 2018, I was really glad that I was able to make a positive impact on the team and show how much Berkshire squash has improved.”

Former world No. 1 professional squash player Nick Matthew, Berkshire’s director of squash, said the team’s success reflects the collective effort across the program.

“It’s the day-to-day work by all players—from varsity veterans to players on thirds experiencing the sport for the first time—that makes the difference,” Matthew said. “We’ve taken big steps forward this season, thanks to the hard work behind the scenes from everyone involved in the program. The new banner looks great on the wall in Soffer, but the challenge now is to build on this success next year.”
