Last week, over 100 alumni, parents and friends of Berkshire gathered at the beautiful Workhouse in New York City to hear remarks from Zach Haberman '96, Head of Content at The New York Daily News. The evening was graciously hosted by Berkshire parents Debra Larsen-Alami and Mehdi Alami P' 20 whose leadership and generosity made the event possible.

The gathering took place on April 11, the date designated One Day for Berkshire, during which the community came together in support of teaching and learning under the Mountain, raising over 1,600 gifts to Berkshire. Head of School Pieter Mulder thanked the large crowd for their ongoing support and introduced newly named Director of Advancement Andrew Bogardus, who has served as the School's Director of Admission since 2005.

Haberman shared tales from his early career as a journalist in New York just prior to 9/11 up through his days as the current Head of Content for the Daily News.

Haberman began his career as an intern at The New York Post in 2000, "covering anything and everything in the city" for three years. He then began work in the police bureau covering the NYPD, followed by a stint in the Brooklyn courts covering many Mafia and terrorism trials. He later went on to work for ABC News contributing to national stories for broadcast and returned to The New York Post as a city desk editor before jumping into the digital world for AOL and the digital side of newspapers.

Haberman's first day at the Daily News in 2012 as the new Deputy Managing Editor/Digital was the same day Hurricane Sandy pummeled New York City, and he's been, "on that roller coaster ride ever since." In 2014, he took on the additional role of Deputy Head of Content for the paper, becoming Head of Content in 2015.

Berkshire is grateful to Zach Haberman for sharing his adventures in journalism at our New York event. If you would like to speak at an upcoming reception, please reach out to Director of Alumni Relations Kristina Miller '97 for more details.
