|Alpine Skiing - Coed Junior Varsity Sundown Slalom|
|Date:||January 24, 2014|
Five members of the Berkshire School Junior Varsity Ski Team traveled to Ski Sundown, in New Hartford, CT on Friday, January 24 for their first big race of the Brigham Ski League season, a slalom event hosted by Suffield Academy. The Berkshire athletes had a great outing, and their coaches are proud.
In addition to Berkshire and Suffield, Taft, Avon Old Farms, Trinity-Pawling, Loomis-Chaffee and Ethel Walker schools were all in attendance, fielding 38 racers in total, several of them (including a few of ours) in their first ever ski race. Newcomer Ali Duryea ’16 ran in the first seed, the only young woman on the Berkshire team (JV is co-ed), and turned in two enthusiastic runs to finish in 26th. Logan Bigall ’17 and Stephen Matlock ’17 were both consistent and finished less than a combined three seconds apart in 22nd and 24th places respectively, and fellow freshman AmirGhani ’17 shaved some time off in his second run to end in 32nd place. The leading performance for Berkshire, though, was clearly from relative veteran Ben Nadler ’16, who landed in second place overall, just behind Taft’s Cashen Keeier (whom we congratulate on the win!). Ben set out to “podium” and, in the end, did not disappoint.
On the ride home to Sheffield, the JV team was happy and excited for their first effort—as they should be—and already talking about their next races.
