On Friday, January 25th, Berkshire’s boys’ and girls’ JV ski teams competed at Ski Sundown, in New Hartford, CT, against teams from Suffield Academy, Taft, Ethel Walker, Trinity-Pawling, Avon, Loomis, and Miss Porter’s. Despite a full field of able competitors, particularly from perennial rival Suffield Academy, both Berkshire teams did very well, finishing near the top of the pack (given the diversity of numbers--some teams brought six athletes, and others fewer—and team types—some single-gender, and others mixed, it’s hard to declare any one team the absolute winner).
On the boys’ side, we were very strong, anchored by an outstanding performance by Will MacClarence ’14, who finished in fourth place overall. Then came Corey Gary ’13, Ben Lang ’15, and newcomer Chris Bower ’15, in seventh, eighth, and ninth places, respectively. Rounding out the boys’ team’s performances, brand-new-to-ski-racing Sam Rusoff ’15 took 23rd, and freshman Ben Nadler ’16 came in 42nd.
The Berkshrie girls were equally impressive. Sam Reagan ’16 finished in sixth place, Swetha Kodali ’13 took 10th, Emily Hubbard ‘14 grabbed 14th, and Eloise Morrow ’14 came in 22rd—and these in the total field of boys and girls! With JV results like those the Bears logged on Friday, it is easy to see how deeply talented our ski teams—varsity and JV, boys and girls alike—truly are. We are tremendously proud of this group and look forward to more great results from them in the future.
