Berkshire School fields a Girls Varsity, a Boys Varsity and a co-ed Junior Varsity ski team.
Berkshire provides our students with a unique opportunity to maximize their ski race regimen while remaining focused on a demanding academic curriculum. Our Girl's Varsity Team competes in the Class A Division of the New England Private School Athletic Council (NEPSAC – ME, NH, VT, MA, CT) and within the Berkshire Ski League, which are comprised of prep schools in western Massachusetts and Connecticut. The girls train five days a week at the Catamount Ski Area, which is located a short eight-minute drive from campus. Our licensed USSA coaches provide a dedicated daily training progression, offering school and USSA race support, assistance in equipment selection and tuning, video analysis and conditioning.
The program has enjoyed strong success in recent years. The Boys Varsity has been undefeated in the past three years of BSL competitions, including winning the BSL Slalom and Giant Slalom Championships in those three years. In the 2011 and 2012 seasons, the Boys Varsity won the New England Class B Championship including the New England Boy's Overall Champion and Boy's Slalom Champion in both years. In 2013, the Boys finished 2nd overall in the New England Class A Championships, while the Girls won the New England Girls Slalom title!
Our athletes also have the opportunity to compete in the United States Ski Association (USSA). Berkshire School maintains a licensed USSA Club Program, which provides the continuity of training all week, coupled with the support at weekend USSA races. For the 2014 season, twenty of our thirty-one skiers will compete in USSA competitions. In the past four years, Berkshire racers qualified to the USSA Future Stars, Eastern U16 Championships, Eastern U16 Finals, Eastern U21/U18 Finals, FIS Eastern NJR Championships, Eastern Elite FIS Spring Series and the U16 Am-Can Championships!
